Day #46 – Lockdown

I just opened my eyes, turned the kettle on, took a cup, poured the hot water and BAMMMMM the cup broke into 2…

Oh no. It made Such a big mess. I had to fast-forward my waking up process and clean the bench and the floor…

Really? It made me think, maybe that’s going to look like my day, so maybe it’s better I go back to bed… but probably not, it’s Thursday- Cooking day. Yayyyy.

Since I had enough of the same food, I sat down with my new cup of coffee and looked at my old recipes… some of the things I didn’t make for a long time, then I realised it’s time to refresh the menu. I made pineapple chicken, sautéed vegetables spaghetti and arais meat.

It was a very busy day; and to top it up I made challahs and chocolate babka.

I think I’m ready for Shabbat. Can we start it now?!

Day #45 – Lockdown

It was just another day, kids at online-school, had a coffee in my new cup, which made me smile again.
Had a go on our puzzle for a few minutes. nothing was happening…

Then I felt like making savory cheese muffins that were finished before I noticed and that’s a very good sign.

Then my daughter saw I don’t feel like making dinner so she put on an apron, got her iPad, set up the table and opened an online restaurant menu for us. We just had to decide what we would like to order. After we ordered the food, she asked us to go about what we were doing and come back in an hour. After an hour, she called us to come to the table and receive our order.

After the main course we had dessert.

OMG. It was incredible. What a fantastic meal.
With amazing hot brownie and vanilla ice cream.
I was definitely impressed by the effort.

Day #44 – Lockdown

Today the sun came out and it made me happier during the day… I went out to water the veggie patch, which looked very happy after the latest rain…

Today was homemade junk-food day. For lunch I made burgers in a bun with coleslaw on the side. For dinner I made homemade pizza and garlic bread with Israeli salad.
It was delicious!

The mail arrived again today, my daughter bought me an early Mother’s Day present. I was very surprised. I Opened it, the box already looked amazing, with some lovehearts…
Opened the box carfully, There I saw this:

I couldn’t hold my laughter for long. It’s so original and different, only my daughter would think that…

I was definitely touched. I wonder what’s going to happen on Sunday, the real Mother’s Day…

Day #43 – Lockdown

Woke up as usual, got dressed.. yup. Gotta go shopping again. How exciting!

After I made sure the kids started online school, I went out… Coles was very busy, started to follow my list then I saw a friend, it was so nice to chat with someone face to face, nearly forgot that feeling…

Came back, unpacked my groceries which was a big job, then made a yummy chicken soup, so yummy that straight away everyone wanted to get a bowl of soup. The happiest moment of all … well, my polish roots have come to life.
Then it was time for me to help with some school assignments.

After school was over, we started to watch the Lego Masters episode we missed yesterday…

Then, to our surprise we received part of our Spotlight delivery, which contained a crochet hook and threads. Because I wanted to teach my daughter how to knit a Kippah.
Wwhen I was in high school it was something we learned and practiced all the time. It was the “cool girls” thing… until I could make beautiful kipot with some “carpet” designs and the most beautiful colours. I even knew how to design it first on a notebook and then knit it.

I thought it’s something I won’t really remember how to do, it’s been few years since I was in high school… but once I helped with the crochet hook and the thread, it all came back to me.

Shocking… How some things you never forget.

This is a big achievement, I taught my daughter how to do it… Hooray!

Day #42 – Lockdown

Today I couldn’t be bothered to do anything, so it was just another day… no cooking (ha ha ha… ) / eating leftovers.

All same old activities:

Playing table tennis, Xbox games, doing some mindfulness colouring, my husband and my son learned to play The Coffin Dance on the keyboard until they got it right, and I went nuts listening to the their learning curve… but the result was nice!

My parents (overseas) played some skribble.io with my daughter and some online chess with my son.

That’s how my kids reconnect these days with their grandparents.

Day #40 – Lockdown

Today is my 40th day of isolation,
And today, I just miss EVERYTHING.

one of those days…
I miss the routine I had,
I miss leaving the house, not just for shopping…
I miss summer,
I miss the beach,
I miss being on holiday,
I miss new experiences,
I miss day trips,
I miss the freedom,
I miss my family,
I miss my friends,
I miss just being with other people,
I miss going out with friends.

Luckily I have so many memories to look at and Enjoy…

Day #39 – Lockdown

Today started the same as every Thursday, woke the kids to start school. Made my coffee and realised the milk isn’t very cold… oops…. the fridge isn’t working.
Had to start taking everything out of the fridge and move it to my extra fridge, which is located in the garage. What a hassle! Even before I drank my coffee…

Then I started cooking… paused for helping out my daughter to make a PowerPoint slide deck on Green Sea Turtles and the global warming, kept cooking… stopped again to help making another PowerPoint slide deck about Ancient China Hinduism, back to cooking… ate Lunch. Helped answering English questions about a Narnia book.

Hmmm….. And I thought I finished school years ago….

Then we started to make dinner that took hours, because we made pasta from scratch. First time ever! And I can promise you it won’t happen again. I used muscles that I didn’t know existed. I will be so sore tomorrow…

But it was so fresh and yummm.

Cheers to new experiences!

Day #38 – Lockdown

We woke up very early & got dressed, yes, you guessed it right. It’s a special day today! It’s YOM HAATZMAUT, 72nd Birthday to the state of Israel.

But not just… we had to pay a visit to our orthodontist. So we drove far far away from home, just kidding, to Bentleigh. I was doing some step exercise outside while the kids were treated inside.

After this trip drove back home. well, after that my kids enjoyed a full day with soup and ice cream.

The second part of the day was doing my nails (by myself) in a blue colour to fit the feeling of the day. Then, we did take #3 of hair colour…

But this time we used a professional.

After we tried a few times and she was devastated that it didn’t work… I knew she had to bleach, and I’m not taking that on me.

So my daughter now has a purple colour on her hair and she’s As happy as Larry.

I was finished after that so I went to bed really early…

The little things that make us happy

Day #37 – Lockdown

I woke up very tired . So I decided to stay in bed after I made sure the kids woke up to school.

Started the morning watching some familiar fallen soldiers’ stories, most of them I know but it’s always so touching to listen to it again, it never leaves my eyes dry…

Then I had to help with some school activities, paused to keep some progress on the jigsaw puzzle and since I knew it’s Yom Haatzmaut I decided to get ready for an Israeli dinner after the transition ceremony from Yom Hazikaron (memorial day) to Yom Haatzmaut (independence day).

And I was super creative with the dessert…

Then the kids explained my parents how to play skribble.io, although it took them a long time to get into the game and start playing… but they made it!
Skribble.io is an online drawing game: someone draws something and the other players need to guess what it is. They played together for a few hours. It was fun! Both sides enjoyed it.

Ooops…. There wasn’t time for art today.
Tomorrow is already Wednesday… I cannot believe it!

Day #36 – Lockdown

This morning the air was really freezing. I really didn’t feel like going out of bed but, since I had to wake up the kids for another school day, I got up and, got dressed, put on a warm jumper and turned on the kettle.

Had my little coffee in quiet. Then woke up the kids again, and once they were in front of their screen – remote learning – I went out for shopping.

It was early so I did it quickly.
I was so happy to get some fruit and veggies, and in general – see the world.

Came back home and made 15L minestrone soup for those cold days…
Then the sun came out and I was sitting, enjoying and appreciating nature around me.

After school finished we started a beautiful painting that we’ll finish tomorrow… looking forward to it!
